America Recycles Day 2023 – Wednesday, November 15th
This year, we wanted to highlight what the M.e.t. is all about; Reducing Waste, Reusing Old Items, and Recycling across the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. We presented 6 awards to people dedicated to recycling, sustainability, and the M.e.t.’s mission. Current Friends of the M.e.t. President Mike Melega and Naming Sponsor Republic Services’ Megan Salyer presented the awards to each award winner.
2023 America Recycles Day Award Winners!
2023 Recycler of the Year- Gary Percefull
Gary Percefull is an involved member of the recycling community, and he serves on the Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful Board. He helped create the BA Trash Bash and Recycling Rally, an event that continues to provide citizens with places to recycle hard-to-dispose waste. Gary is a great example of an involved recycler, which is why he is our 2023 Recycler of the Year.
2023 Green Event of the Year- Chandler Park Earth Day
Chandler Park’s Earth Day Event featured 18 partners this year, as well as Green STEAM activities for kids, including a recycled material kid’s fashion show. The event promotes recycling, local community gardens, and pollinator education.
2023 Green Project of the Year- Union Sustainability Fair
Aryn Hardman and Emily Hallford are Union High School teachers who put together a Sustainability Fair for students of Union High School. The fair promotes environmental science, environmental protection, sustainability, and local organizations to Union High School students.
2023 Green Nonprofit of the Year- Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful
Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful is dedicated to keeping Broken Arrow “Beautiful” through litter cleanup, recycling, and more. They promote recycling at the BA Farmer’s Market, The Rose Festival, and the biannual Broken Arrow Trash Bash & Recycling Rally.
Distinguished Service Award- Scott Eudey
Scott Served on our board since 2015 and recently moved on from the M.e.t. We presented this award to him out of gratitude for his service and hard work. Thank you for serving on the board, Scott!
Lifetime Achievement- Terrie Hannam
Terrie retired from the M.e.t. in 2023, but she has been a dedicated Office Manager since 1993. She developed many of the M.e.t.’s staple events, such as America Recycles Day, the Worker Christmas Party, EnviroExpo, and the formerly biannual Household Pollutant Event in Tulsa. Thank you for being with the M.e.t. for 30 years, Terrie! We appreciate all of your dedication, hard work, and achievements.
