Smoke Alarm & Fire Extinguisher Collection Event – Sept 25th

Most people know to check their smoke detector batteries at least twice a year, typically at daylight savings time changes. However, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), replacement of the entire detector should occur at least every 10 years. Fire extinguishers should be periodically replaced to ensure proper usage. Additionally, smoke detectors should not be placed in the trash because they can contain toxic and radioactive materials.

On Saturday, September 25, 2021 you can bring your old smoke alarms and fire extinguishers to The M.e.t.’s tent at 12001 E 96 Street N. in Owasso’s Lowe’s parking lot and drop them off for free to be properly recycled. This will be a drive-thru event from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm. While you are at it, you can bring in your old mercury thermostats/thermometers, batteries, and fluorescent “tube-style” bulbs.

Again, there is no charge for this service. A $5 Lowe’s gift card will go to the first people who specifically bring a smoke alarm and/or mercury thermostat while supplies last. Make sure you look for The M.e.t. Trailer in the Lowe’s Parking lot! For more information, call 918- 584-0584.
